The biggest challenge I have come to face is getting to know the people at my internship. Speaking to children turned out to be a little more challenging than I thought it would be. Although children do speak a lot I find it difficult. It may be due to my lack of experience near children. Yesterday I had to explain a math problem to a student. I understood the problem yet the only difficulty was explaining it. I became an intern to see if I may like joining teach for a living. But so far I'm not liking it. A teacher is supposed to know how to explain things; this is a skill I lack of. I solved this problem along with many others with the help of the children, they helped me extend my knowledge in ways I didn't know how to; teaching.School Mascot!!

For today's blog post I read 3 classmate's internship blog: Sielo Cervantes, Laisa Perez, and Kimberly Lowe. I read blog post number 10. In my perspective they had different ideas and feelings about their own internship. What I resulted in posting was nothing similar to what they posted. For example, Sielo said that she was simply excited to see where her internship would take her. She says she enjoys interning at Mystic events. Laisa Perez and Kimmy Lowe say just about the same. They are anxious or excited. They are being optimistic about internship. In the other hand, I am not very pleased by my internship. I don't think joining teach for me is a very great idea because of several skills I lack of.Over the course of my internship at Laura Rodriguez Elementary School, my perspective has changed. The past two weeks that I have been part of a 4th grade class has altered my interest in joining teach. Being a teacher takes a lot of responsibility. The educator is responsible for the children's education and well-being; the teacher practically is a mother/father to the children because of the hours spent together, and because of how he/she connects to the students. I don't believe myself capable of becoming a teacher in the future. I certainly think that I lack a lot of characteristics that are needed to become a teacher.five pictures of me working this week:Grading math tests.Working on my library project.Cutting paper.Helping Lilith with her essay.Unstacking the new class library bins for my project.High Tech High International has one huge comparison to Laura Rodriguez Elementary; both schools allow their students to work in groups and develop their thinking further. Most of the time students are talking about the material and trying to understand it with of course, help from their teacher when they need it. This helps students later in the future become better problem solvers and also gain better communication skills. At Laura, students usually never work individually because of their young age and need to develop their brain. These two schools give students the opportunity to speak freely and succeed as much as possible. From the time that I have been an intern at Laura and a student at HTHI, I have noticed the comparison between both schools and the uniqueness of each school.
My Mentor and I decided that my project would be to fix the class library. This project will benefit both students and teachers, it will be easier to find books and organize them. My task is to order the books by fiction, nonfiction and fiction series since they are a complete mess as shown below. But most importantly I would need to figure out what kind of bins to choose and how many, also labels are needed. As of now, I have in mind rainbow colors for the bins. I have to think quick because the bins take long to be shipped. To be truthful, this library project is more challenging than I thought it would be; this project takes time and dedication. A person needs to be well organized which it is a skill that I lack but as of the start of internship I have been improving this skill. To finalize this project i want to make a book drop. I got this idea from my local library. Customers usually give them to the people who work there or drop them in the "Book Drop." At the library and at a 4th grade class, both will most likely not take their time nor know how to put the books away where they belong. So this idea of having a book drop can really come in handy so the class library can last for as long as possible.
As I've said before, the school's mission is to educate the young succeed in education and life; teacher's want the best for their students. Staff engages as much as possible to know their students inside and outside of school, it is a similar school to High Tech High International. Teachers induce students to be as creative as possible in order to make their learning fun. Students gain knowledge from their teachers and from their peers. Accompanied by each other they slowly learn a couple of very important character traits: respect, gratitude, responsibility, courage, self-discipline, and perseverance. These character traits help them be on their best behavior. Additionally, the 4th grade students at Laura Rodriguez benefit from the work that they are taught at school. In the future, if they listen to their instructor they will over succeed in education.
Being a 4th grader can be pretty tough says Jeffrey Lopez. "I didn't think 4th would be this hard, I thought I was gonna be given less work." Jeffrey complains about the huge amounts of homework and how homework takes up all his time and as a result he is given no time for his hobbies. This may sound ironic but I partially agree with him. Students now adays are being taught more advanced materials. When I stepped into my former 3rd grade teacher's classroom i noticed a huge change; students were writing essays, discussing about texts and being taught more advanced mathematics.
I am surprised by the students' intelligence and way of thinking. Today I participated in the first Laura Rodriguez Elementary Peace Walk. Everyone in school participated, both students and teachers made posters to show their amazing different ideas considering peace. The Peace Walk that was hosted today was similar to a gallery walk; everyone hung up their posters and showed them off. Today's event was all about reminding students and teachers that respect, responsibility, gratitude, calmness, peace and friendship are all important and everyone must cherish them.
